As part of it’s exhibition on WB Yeats, the National Library released 250 copies of assorted Yeats books all over the greater Dublin Area as part of a giant book crossing.

Each book was tagged and details given on the crossing and how to register that you’d picked up the book. Now, despite having been pretty well dispersed almost a month ago, only 2 books have been reported back to the NLI.

I’d say the staff behind the idea are well miffed as such a lousy response, I know I would be. I mean, since it’s the National Library, it’s us sodding taxpayers funding it. So of course, someone will probably moan it’s a waste of money. I refuse to believe that anyone in their right mind can think promoting the reading of someone as good as Yeats can be a waste of money.

So for god’s sake, if you find one of these books, read a bit of it, leave it somewhere, then report the crossing to the NLI!
