Visa payWave

Seriously, am I the only person who sees this as a security nightmare waiting to happen?

RFID tagged Credit cards? I thought the idea was to reduce credit card fraud, not make it easier?

From what I understand this is more in retailers favour. Said antenna is picked up by something on the store shelves. From your card they get your demographics and can tell what displays you are most attracted too! Scary stuff… very matrix!

and you don’t think they’d have thought of security issues? Really? You really don’t? Wow.

It useable a maximum of 4 times before you’ll be prompted for a pin, and has a max transaction value of £10.

So you can never be defrauded by more than £40, which the bank guarantees anyway.

But well done for bringing up something someone like Visa was bound not to have considered.

Well, snotty tone aside, I never failed to be surprised by the amount of companies/Governments who pay bog all attention to security issues.

So no, I’m sure they’ve considered security issues, just done sweet f.a. to deal with them.

“just done sweet f.a. to deal with them.”

They really have according to the site, and my knowledge of the systems mastercard and visa have put in place for this.

Is this RFID, or is it a contactless smartcard based thing? The visa websites say contactless smartcard, which would make it a little bit more secure at least.
