Paddy’s Day - It’s, eh, been moved?
July 18th, 2007 | by Colm |Right, so, eh, this is weird.
Turns out that next year, March 17th will fall on the first day of Holy Week, so Rome has decreed that Official celebrations be moved. They had suggested that it be moved to April 1st, but the Irish Diocese (or whatever the term is), were keen to keep the date as close to March 17th as possible. Perhaps something to do with no-one associating it with religion anymore as it is, never mind if it’s 2 weeks late..
Anyway, as with everything in life, they compromised. So for 2008, Paddy’s day will actually fall on March 15th. Not that I think this will effect 99% of the world’s population (and businesses) celebrating on March 17th, I just thought it was weird how they can move dates like that??
